Cape Jewelry Brokers is always buying silver!
Silver is considered one of the noble metals and for years it was considered one of the low cost metals. It was so low cost that for years people bought up sterling silver tea services, coffee pots, utensils, flat ware and serviing trays. Silver jewelry has been very popular for hundreds of years.
Many people would give newlyweds, grandchildren or new grads a gift of silver ingots or coins. These were usually tucked away for the future with hardly a thought.
But now the Silver prices are peaking at an all time high. Now is an excellent time to dig out those sterling silver items, coins, ingots, flatware etc and get some cash. We get very excited when we see the delighted smiles on those selling their silver and enjoying the higher prices being paid for their items which sat in their back closets for years.
A few Silver tips:
1. NEVER clean that silver item prior to bringing it in for an evaluation. Many older vintage items are actually more valuable with the patina. Collectors LOVE this as it shows the items age. We pay a bit more for certain vintage sterling silver items. Coins especially should NEVER be washed or cleaned
2. " What about those dips I see on tv which shines silver items up like magic?" Bad idea. The caustic chemicals actually remove the tarnish but also can damage your item as well as remove some of the precious silver. There are several silver polishes we can suggest that clean your item properly without damaging.
3. "How can I tell if an item is Sterling silver or just a plate? " Most items that are sterling silver will be stamped Sterling or if it is from europe or some other area of the world it may have certain hallmark stamps on it. But be careful if your out buying sterling items. Due to the rise in silver prices some scoundrels are actually buying up silver plated items, and then stamping them sterling and selling them for high dollar to those who can't evaluate these properly. If in doubt bring your item to a Cape Jewelery Brokers for a free evaluation.
